Each year in December we have a social night. This is one of the biggest events in the club calenar, probably as it involves an evening of free food and drink. Members are invited to bring along guests and the only rule is that conversation may not involve amateur radio! In past years we have been lucky enough to secure John GM0KTO's band to play for us during the evening. There's an article on last year's social night on this site.

In early December there is also the Bright Sparks' Quiz. This is hosted among several local radio clubs; with each contributing a team from their members. Last year, unfortunately, we didn't do too well. However, Stan GM8MRW gives us a quiz each week at the meetings to reverse this bad performance, so cross your fingers for us this year!

We also have an annual construction contest which takes place in October/November. Usually there is a theme for construction, if memory seves me correctly last time it was building a radio based on a particular integrated circuit. The winner of this competition is presented with a cup at the social night in December, which he is welcome to keep until the next contest.
