Hi my name is Ernie,
It was in 1984 when a neighbour got me interested in radio,he was a shortwave listener and I would go to his home to listen to the world on his reciever. Then we both studied for the RAE ( radio amateurs examination ) during the winter of the same year.
By the summer the exam was passed and the license applied for. It arieved and I became GM1RFJ my class B license and had my first qso (contact) on 31/08/1985 The winter of 1985 a group of us learned morse code and the A class license was obtained in April of 1986 my callsign changed to GM0EZP the call I hold to this day.
Since then I have enjoyed chatting to people around the world and trying different aspects of the hobby, ssb, cw, direction finding, building equipment and antennas It is great fun. Right now September 2001 I have been trying psk31 a mode where you connect your computer to the radio and talk to the world.it is a great hobby.
